Ibrahim Jalal is a Yemeni security, conflict, and defense researcher based in the United Kingdom, an Erasmus scholar, and a co-founding member of the Security Distillery think tank. His research examines the United Nations-led peace process in Yemen, U.S. counterterrorism strategy in Yemen, the politics of the Arab coalition, the hybrid rise of the Houthi insurgency, Gulf security, Iran, and the evolving security architecture of the Middle East. Since 2011, Jalal has worked with several academic, private, and nongovernmental organizations in Yemen, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Australia. He has also delivered talks and debriefings to a diverse scope of audiences. Most recently, Jalal was a visiting scholar at Macquarie University’s Department of Security Studies and Criminology in Australia. He has an MSc in security, conflict, and strategic studies from the University of Glasgow, an MSc in strategy and diplomacy from National University of Malaysia’s Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations, and a BA in international affairs (honors) from the Northern University of Malaysia.
