Razan AlSarraf
Kuwaiti Artist
Razan AlSarraf is an artist and educator based between Kuwait and Los Angeles. Through painting, drawing, video, and sound, she reflects on people’s interactions with land and landscape, focusing on Kuwait’s sociocultural and physical landscapes. AlSarraf received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with honors from the School of Visual Arts in New York and an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. She is the recipient of the SVA Alumni Society Scholarship and Award and the Ministry of Higher Education of Kuwait’s Merit bachelor’s and master’s scholarships. She has exhibited internationally, participating in exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Kuwait.
AlSarraf has an impressive variety of accomplishments beyond art exhibitions, giving artist talks at the Asia Society and the Arab Conference at Harvard, curating shows in New York City and Los Angeles, hosting studio visits for Sotheby’s master’s students, participating in residencies with Sadu House Kuwait, LASALLE College of the Arts, and Spore Space in Ojai, California, teaching courses at the California Institute of the Arts, and co-founding GOES TO OCEAN, an active project space and gallery in Los Angeles. AlSarraf has also been featured in TIME magazine and Harper’s Bazaar Arabia as well as in several international podcasts and publications.
