Sona Varma is a lead economist for the Gulf Cooperation Council countries at the World Bank. She works in the Macro, Trade and Investment Global Practice of the World Bank, supporting GCC clients on macro, fiscal, and growth-related issues. Varma has had a long career as an economist at the World Bank, covering countries in Africa, South Asia, and the Caribbean. She holds a PhD in economics from American University in Washington, DC.
