Nick Childs

Nick Childs is a senior fellow for naval forces and maritime security at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, where he is responsible for the analysis of naval forces and maritime security, as well as the data on sea power capabilities, published in the flagship annual “Military Balance.” His expertise is in maritime defense; U.S., Russian, European, and Asia-Pacific major naval powers; naval and maritime policy and strategy; major maritime disputes; aircraft carrier capabilities; submarine and subsurface warfare developments; amphibious warfare; and naval ballistic missile defense. For more than three decades, Childs worked at the BBC, most recently as world affairs correspondent and also as their defense and Pentagon correspondent. He holds an MA in modern history and economics from St Catherine’s College at the University of Oxford.
