Book Talk: The Development of An Art History in the UAE

Sophie Kazan Makhlouf is an honorary fellow of the School of Museum Studies at Leicester University. She is a lecturer at the University of Notre Dame in London and at the University of Falmouth. Makhlouf holds an undergraduate degree from the University of London, a master‘s from the University of Oxford, and a PhD from the School of Museum Studies at the University of Leicester. Her book The Development of An Art History in the UAE: An Art Not Made To Be Understood was published by Anthem Press and launched in the United Arab Emirates, with events at Abu Dhabi Art, Alserkal Art Week, and the College of Fine Arts and Design at the University of Sharjah.
Makhlouf is also a member of the Association for Art History, and she hosts 60 second Art Minute documentaries on YouTube, to promote accessibility and education in the visual arts.
