Independent Researchers Are Advancing UAE History on Social Media
Independent researchers and informal collaboratives have been connecting through social media to fill in gaps in popular knowledge of the United Arab Emirates’ pre-state era.

Abdulla Almarzooqi is an MA candidate in Middle Eastern studies at Harvard University. His research interests include the modern history of the Gulf and the production and dissemination of history. He holds a BA from NYU Abu Dhabi where he majored in business and minored in Middle Eastern studies, art history, and economics. At NYU Abu Dhabi, he co-founded the university’s first student-led Arabic publication, Alnakheel Magazine. At Harvard, he served as a research assistant in the Department of History working on the history of education in the Gulf. He has interned at Emaar, DIFC Authority, and Wasl. He has delivered talks at conferences at the University of Copenhagen and Bahçeşehir University Istanbul. He speaks Arabic, English, Turkish, and basic French. He was born and raised in Dubai.
