The Arts and Culture Sectors in the Gulf: Reimagining the Future in the Midst of a Pandemic
On April 29, AGSIW hosted a panel discussion on how the arts and culture sectors in the Gulf are adapting to a new reality.
Director, Art Jameel
Antonia Carver is the director of Art Jameel, overseeing its work across heritage, education, and the arts. Prior to joining Art Jameel, she was director of Art Dubai. During her tenure, this annual event became the leading international fair for the Middle East and South Asia, and the world’s most global, including a diverse educational and not-for-profit program. Carver began her career in publishing and arts journalism holding a number of editorial positions in the United Kingdom before relocating to the Middle East. In 2004, she joined Bidoun as an editor and later became the director of the Middle Eastern arts organization’s projects division. Carver has written extensively on Middle Eastern art and film, regularly speaks at local and international conferences, and sits on governmental and non-governmental boards and committees. She played a role in establishing and curating the Dubai International Film Festival, and has also acted as an Arab and Iranian film specialist for the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Carver holds a Master of Arts from the University of Edinburgh in Social Anthropology.
