Fatima Al-Shamsi is a member of the board of directors of the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington. She is the former deputy vice chancellor for administrative affairs at the Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi. She has extensive administrative experience in academic institutions as she also served as secretary general of the United Arab Emirates University. She holds a PhD in economics from the University of Exeter, United Kingdom, a Master of Economics from the University of Baltimore, and a Bachelor of Economics from the College of Economics & Political Sciences, Cairo University. She has many research publications in refereed academic journals and has presented research papers in various scientific conferences. Her research interest is also in women’s economic role and labor force participation. Al-Shamsi has been a member of many committees at the national and international level such as the UAE World Trade Organization Committee and was a member of a delegation to the World Trade Organization conference in Doha. She is a founding member of the Gulf Research Foundation in Switzerland as well as the UAE Human Rights Association. She served as a member of the Abu Dhabi Higher Education task force in 2008 and in the committee preparing the report of the UAE Millennium’s Objectives for 2007, prepared by the Ministry of Economy. Al-Shamsi is currently serving as a member of the 2015 Federal National Council Election Committee and the board of trustees of the Economic Research Forum, Cairo, Egypt. She has held several academic and administrative positions and served as a consultant to the UAE National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority.
