Secretary General, International Energy Forum
Joseph P. McMonigle is the secretary general of the International Energy Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He is the co-founder and former president of the Abraham Group. Previously, McMonigle served as chief of staff at the U.S. Department of Energy (2001-05). He also served as the U.S. co-chair of the U.S.-China Energy Cooperation Working Group and led the Department of Energy’s bilateral activities and engagement with China. McMonigle was also the former vice chairman of the Paris-based International Energy Agency. He served concurrently as the U.S. representative to the IEA (2003-05). Before joining the administration of U.S. President George W. Bush, McMonigle was the administrative assistant and general counsel to a U.S. senator. He is also an attorney and a member of the Energy Bar Association as well as the Pennsylvania and District of Columbia bars. McMonigle is also a member of the National Press Club.
