AGSIW Senior Resident Scholar Hussein Ibish spoke with France 24 about regional implications of violence in Jerusalem and U.S. involvement in the Israeli-Palestinian issue noting, “It is clearly time for the United States to take a lead now to push both parties to act in their broader national interest. It is really time for a third party; only the United States can do it, especially if the Jordanians play a positive, mediating role.”
He continued, “There is a link of what is happening now and the controversy over Qatar in the Gulf. What we are seeing is a concerted attack on the remnants of the Muslim Brotherhood across the Middle East in Egypt, Gaza, and Qatar. Hamas is exploiting this recent uprising, and that is something all parties need to take into consideration.”
