Middle East Studies Association:AGSIW was pleased to be a sponsor of and exhibitor at the virtual 2020 Middle East Studies Association annual meeting. Additionally, Kristin Smith Diwan chaired the panel "Engineering Culture: Understanding the State-led Transformation in Saudi Arabia" and presented a paper on the role of entertainment and heritage in the new Saudi nationalism. Robert Mogielnicki presented a paper on the technological dimensions of China’s economic engagement with Gulf Arab states for the panel “Asia and Silk Road Politics.” Emma Soubrier was a discussant on the panel "Gulf State-Society Relations and New Dynamics of the Rentier Debate."
