Ahmed Al Musalmi

Ahmed Al Musalmi is a former member of the board of directors of the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington. He joined Sohar International in May 2018 as chief executive officer. He has been a catalyst in the bank’s transformation and a proven leader who combines business vision and people skills with over two decades of experience. Al Musalmi is a results-oriented and strategic thinker with extensive industry and functional expertise that includes wholesale banking, capital markets, retail banking and wealth management, trade finance, risk management, operations management, information technology, human resources, finance and strategy development, and business planning. He has worked in and held leadership positions in several national and international financial institutions in his career. He was the CEO, and led the transformation, of the National Bank of Oman prior to his move to Sohar International.
Al Musalmi is a graduate of Harvard Business School and holds an MBA with distinction from the University of Bedfordshire. He also holds an international diploma in financial services. Al Musalmi is a chartered market analyst with financial analyst designation, a chartered portfolio manager, and a chartered wealth manager. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Financial Management and has been a part of several advanced programs, including with IMD Switzerland and Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Al Musalmi is the deputy chairman of ASYAD Group and Chairman of its Board Audit Committee. He is the former deputy chairman of the Oman Bankers Association and a member of the College of Banking and Financial Studies’ board. Previously, he also sat on the boards of a number of prominent institutions, including the Oman Aviation Group, the Special Economic Zone of Duqm, and Takaful Oman.
