Ahmed Alowfi is a non-resident senior researcher and head of the Cultural Studies Unit at the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies. He is a PhD candidate in sociology at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and holds a master’s degree in sociology from the American University in Washington, DC. His research interests include state formation, cultural modernization, and politics of art, culture, and urban spaces.
