Johnny Heald

CEO, ORB International

Johnny Heald is the chief executive officer of ORB International, which he joined in 1998. He has worked in research since 1992 and specializes in issue-based, campaign, international, and sociopolitical research. He has almost two decades of experience conducting multicountry research in developing markets and spent the first five years of his research career conducting polling in Central and Eastern Europe and listening to the opinions of citizens of the former Soviet Union just after its collapse. Heald has spearheaded ORB’s work in the Middle East and Africa, running hundreds of studies for a variety of public and private sector agencies. He is currently responsible for ORB’s five-year contract across Syria and Iraq to measure the performance and effect of multimillion-dollar influence operations and recently designed a model that explores vulnerability to extremism in 20 Muslimmajority countries. Heald works with both the British and U.S. governments and has presented his insights at multiple industry conferences and events. Heald is also the project director for ORB’s collaboration with the Vaccine Confidence Project at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Together with professor Heidi Larson, the team has measured vaccine confidence in more than 75 countries and collaborated with groups including the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization. He is the World Association of Public Opinion Research’s United Kingdom representative and a member of the board of Gallup International, the world’s oldest polling association.
