Senior Economist, International Monetary Fund
Ken Miyajima is a senior economist in the International Monetary Fund’s Middle East and Central Asia Department. Since January 2023, he has been the lead desk economist for Qatar. He has also worked in the IMF’s African, European, and Monetary and Capital Markets Departments, covering countries including Indonesia, Latvia, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa. He took a leave of absence from the IMF to work at the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland as a senior economist focusing on emerging market economies. His research and publications have focused on asset pricing, capital flows, financial stability, fiscal and monetary policy, and inequality. Before joining the IMF, he was in investment banking and a business consultancy. He holds a PhD in economics from the University of California, Los Angeles.
