Deputy Division Chief for the Gulf Cooperation Council and Mission Chief for Qatar, International Monetary Fund
Ran Bi is a deputy division chief in the International Monetary Fund’s Middle East and Central Asia Department. Since July 2021, she has been the IMF’s mission chief for Qatar, and since April 2022, she has been the deputy division chief of the IMF’s Gulf Cooperation Council Division. Bi, a Chinese national, joined the IMF in 2007 and has extensive experience as a macroeconomist. She has worked in the IMF’s Middle East and Central Asia, European, Asia and Pacific, Strategy and Policy Review, and Research departments, covering a wide range of emerging and advanced economies, including Iceland, India, Poland, and Vietnam. She also worked extensively on reforming the IMF’s lending toolkit after the global financial crisis. Bi’s main research interests include international finance, sovereign debt, and inclusive growth. Bi holds a PhD in economics from the University of Maryland, College Park.
