WASHINGTON, September 18, 2023 – The Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington is pleased to announce that Marie van den Bosch has joined the institute as a visiting scholar.
Her research currently focuses on green energy and democratization, the effect of climate change on regime survival, and energy transition in the Gulf. She is also an adjunct professor at Georgetown University, where she teaches classes on oil and authoritarian politics and literature and politics in the Department of Government. From 2018-19, she was the Qatar Post-Doctoral Fellow at Georgetown University’s Center for Contemporary Arab Studies. Before her doctoral studies, she was a researcher for the chief economist for the Middle East and North Africa at the World Bank, a consultant in Qatar for BCG, and a consultant in Yemen for the European Commission. Van den Bosch received her PhD in politics (comparative politics) from Princeton University and holds an MA from Georgetown University’s Center for Contemporary Arab Studies. She completed her undergraduate degree in classics at UCLouvain in Belgium, where she is from.
Van den Bosch commented, “I am thrilled to be joining AGSIW as a visiting scholar this year. My focus on the effect of climate change on Gulf states aligns perfectly with the institute’s research priorities, and the professional environment at AGSIW will give me the opportunity to work with eminent Gulf experts, thus enriching my political science research with invaluable regional depth.”
