WASHINGTON, July 22, 2024 – The Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington is pleased to announce that Ben Cahill has joined the institute as a non-resident fellow.
Cahill is a senior fellow in the Energy Security and Climate Change program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He covers geopolitics and macro trends affecting the oil and gas industry. He has led several research projects on methane emissions and global gas and on U.S. liquefied natural gas exports and national interests. Cahill is also a visiting research fellow at the University of Texas at Austin. He is a specialist on national oil companies and their energy transition strategies. He was previously a director in Energy Intelligence’s Research and Advisory group and led its country risk practice. He also wrote on corporate strategy and covered Saudi Aramco, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, and Southeast Asian national oil companies. Cahill formerly worked at PFC Energy (now part of S&P Global) in Washington, DC and Kuala Lumpur, focusing on country risk and macro trends in the oil and gas industry. He has an MA in international affairs and economics from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies and a BA in international relations and English from Boston University.
Cahill commented, “I’m excited to join AGSIW as a non-resident fellow. I’ve participated in the institute’s events for years and respect its work on geopolitics, security, energy, and environmental issues. The Gulf states will play a critical role in both fossil fuels and lower-carbon energy in the years to come. National oil companies and state investment funds in the Gulf will be important sources of capital and expertise in ‘traditional’ energy, but also in helping to fund clean energy projects. The changes underway have important implications for oil and natural gas markets and for the scale and pace of the energy transition. I look forward to covering these issues in future written work and engagement at AGSIW.”
AGSIW Executive Vice President William Roebuck welcomed Cahill’s appointment as a non-resident fellow. “Ben has been an insightful contributor to AGSIW’s publications and an engaging, well-informed panelist on numerous energy-related programs we’ve held over the years, including our annual Petro-Diplomacy event. We look forward to deepening the relationship and providing Ben with the opportunity to further showcase his impressive expertise. Whether it’s reviewing the transformation of Abu Dhabi’s oil policy or digging into climate change and geopolitics, Ben communicates incisively and with substantive depth. We are lucky to have him join AGSIW.”
