WASHINGTON, February 5, 2019 – The Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington is pleased to announce that Robert Mogielnicki has joined the institute as a resident scholar.
Before joining AGSIW, Mogielnicki served as a senior analyst with the Siwa Group and head of public relations and marketing for Oxford Strategic Consulting, a United Kingdom/Gulf Cooperation Council-focused research consultancy. Previously, he worked as a journalist covering political and economic developments in post-revolutionary Egypt and Tunisia. His work and commentary on the region have appeared in Forbes Middle East, Al Jazeera’s Inside Story, MEED, Al Bawaba, The National (UAE), Gulf Daily News, and other regional publications. Mogielnicki received his PhD from the University of Oxford’s Magdalen College, where he conducted research in conjunction with the Oriental Institute and Middle East Centre. He earned his MA in modern Middle Eastern studies from St Antony’s College, University of Oxford and received his BA from Georgetown University, graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.

Ambassador Marcelle M. Wahba, AGSIW president welcomed Mogielnicki, saying: “We’re delighted that Robert has agreed to come on board as a resident scholar. His in-depth knowledge of the region and demonstrated ability to provide thoughtful and timely analysis of the key economic, trade, and financial trends will contribute materially to AGSIW’s goal of increasing understanding of the complex dynamics at play in the region.”
Mogielnicki’s research will focus on political economy of the Gulf Arab states. He is particularly interested in exploring how these states engage in processes of economic transformation. His research will also examine the geopolitical trends and international capital flows that underpin the crucial role of Gulf Arab states in the Middle East region and on a global scale.
